Our Beginnings
The Stouffville Cricket Association® (SCA) was founded in 2014 by residents from the town of Stouffville to play the sport of cricket for leisure purposes. SCA has a vision to develop and promote cricket amongst individuals of all ages and abilities in the Whitchurch-Stouffville area and across the York region, to promote healthy lifestyle and enhance the spirit of sportsmanship in the diverse community.
Who we are
The Stouffville Cricket Association is a registered non-profit organization with the Government of Ontario as of January 2017. It is also recognized by the municipal Town of Stouffville as the primary and sole body to work with the town officials to develop infrastructure and programs for cricket related activities in Stouffville. The Association is managed by an Executive Committee, who operate on a voluntary basis and elected by the members of the club.
Growing everyday
The association has witnessed a rapidly growing membership of individuals interested to learn and play the sport of cricket. At the start of 2024 season, SCA has approximately 80 full-time members from diverse backgrounds and a dynamic social media presence, both continuing to experience exponential growth and popularity.
Cricket in Stouffville
Stouffville is a fast growing diverse community of the GTA, with residents whose origins are from different parts of the world. Some of them have played cricket in their home country and also in Canada.
Cricket is not just a household name in Stouffville. In support of the vision to promote cricket in Whitchurch-Stouffville, the Stouffville Cricket Association (SCA) worked closely with the municipal government of the Town of Stouffville to develop a new cricket field at Bethesda Sports Field. Thereafter the first-ever Stouffville Cricket Cup was hosted in September 2018. The event saw a great turnout and attendance by ministers, councillors, dignitaries and guests.
The Stouffville Mayor’s Cricket Tournament is now an annual competition and community event. As well, we organize cricket awareness programs at the Stouffville Strawberry Festival, training Girl Guides and local schools. This year we are also planning to roll-out Stouffville’s first cricket training program for kids and youth.
Members of Stouffville Cricket Association participate as a team in various competitive cricket tournaments organized by York Region Cricket Association (YRCA), Canadian Corporate Cricket League (CCCL), Markham Cricket Premier League (MPCL) and Toronto District Cricket Association (TDCA). Each of these cricket leagues have between 15 to 20 unique teams participating, with each team consisting of at least 30 members.
Therefore Stouffville Cricket Association has a presence across hundreds of teams and thousands of cricket players across GTA, and the Stouffville Cricket Club team has won various awards at these tournaments each year.
